Long Bridge Swim 2010

BCSAR volunteers once again assisted with the Long Bridge Swim, an annual event held in late July or early August.  The SAR's mission is to watch for and report swimmers who might be having difficulties during the 1.75 mile swim.

Eric Ridgeway, Director, sent the following message to the SAR Commander:  Thank you so much for helping to make the 2010 Long Bridge Swim such a Splashing Success!!!  696 swimmers started and 674 ran or crawled out onto the welcoming sands of Dog Beach on their own power.  22 swimmers enjoyed the comforts of a boat ride onto the beach.  Lots of beaming faces, proud family members, and many with a sense of huge accomplishment!!!  Thank you for being a part of Safety and making all of this possible for so many 100's of crazy swimmers.  The 7 year old child, and the 80 year old woman both made it in great time and were an inspiration to others.  I can't wait until next year!!!  We are learning and improving as an organization every year...

Garfield Bay Search

On Aug. 2nd, a lady on Garfield Bay Road reported that her neighbor had been missing since about 19:30.  The neighbor's vehicle was still on the property and her purse was in her home.  Search & Rescue was called out at 23:30.  SAR ATV and ground teams searched through the night. Fairchild AFB was notified and a rescue helicopter equipped with FLIR was dispatched Tuesday morning.

About 10:00, the lady arrived safely at her home.  She explained that she had gone to stay with an elderly friend and had not thought to inform her neighbor that she would be gone over night.

BCSAR Supports CHaFE 150 Bike Ride

The third annual CHaFE 150 Idaho-Montana bike ride supporting early childhood education in Northern Idaho was held Saturday, June 12th.  The ride starts and finishes on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille in Sandpoint . The total route winds into MT through the river valleys of the Cabinet Mountains. BCSAR provided communications in the Bull River area of the race, about a 50 mile stretch of road.

Please support those who support us.  Those businesses and individuals listed in the right column above have made cash contributions, provided other material support, or have released their employees to participate in search and rescue activities.  Some own their own business and their participation, at times, is at great sacrifice to that business.   The families of all emergency response personnel have our gratitude for sharing their loved ones with BCSAR and with the community.

Thank you

for your support:
